At the time of the 1851 census, Charlotte & her brothers were living with their married sister, Susan, who had a family of her own.

I can find no record of the family in the 1861 census but by 1871 Charlotte had acquired three daughters.

Charlotte Miles

On Agnes Miles' marriage certificate she gives her father as "Richard Miles"; other than that, I can find no record as to who might have been the father of Charlotte senior's first three daughters & so far have been unable to find a suitable Richard Miles.

That her alleged father bore the same name as her mother leads to some speculation.

Jessie also gives her father's surname as "Miles" although research by others suggests the father's surname was "Dennison".

I note that in the 1871 census they were inmates of a workhouse in Ware.

I have a possible sighting of Charlotte Miles the younger: the 1881 census records a Charlotte born circa 1857 at Wadesmill, Hertfordshire.

This Charlotte had a daughter, Agnes Daisy Miles but there is no reference to a father; the Miles women appeared to have a tradition of not naming the father of their daughters. I note that this Charlotte had also managed to end up in the workhouse.

Given the more or less identical birthplace & dates, I wonder if this might be Charlotte junior.

Joseph Harris

1881 census gives his name as George, dob circa 1851,

place of birth: Hertfordshire

1891 census gives his name as Joseph, dob circa 1849,

place of birth: Braughing, Hertfordshire

The family relationships given on the two censuses confirm Joseph & George are one & the same.

It is interesting to note that, in the 1901 census an Emma Crawley is noted as being a servant to the household.

Emma was born circa 1829 in Ware & shares the same name as Charlotte's married sister Susan. Is this a sister-in-law of the same age as Susan or is it Susan with a change of name?

Susan did have a daughter named Emma but she is recorded as having been born in 1844.
